I also have my roots in blues and the pinky is just not really needed unless you decide to put a slide on it. I branched out into fingerstyle acoustic and my pinky has gotten lots of attention in my playing the last few years. A week ago I fell and broke my left pinky badly at the middle jooint and had a botched surgery to "fix" it. The doc wants to do another one now...I was so depressed and still am that my guitar playing will never be the same, but I have the backup that I can always still play the blues!

I can say never take your hands for granted if you play music! If you injure them you will surely not take them for granted any more. This is a great blog on an often asked question: How do I get my pinky stronger on my fretting hand?

I have a pretty weak pinky and I thank you that you came up with some exercises to strengthen the little guy. I'll be putting these to good use for sure.

Thanks for that. While I have always used all four of my left hand digits (and now five, including the Hendrixian-thumb-over-the-top-o'-the-neck for the Low E chording), pinky is still the weakest little piggy on the block.

Hopefully, these practices will resolve that. If so, I owe my next big dorian solo to you my friend.

Keep the chops flowing.
